I shall go and enjoy myself. But I shall only consume one cervesa tonight. I’m feeling a little emotional. Two might put me on a fast track for heartache. Damn singer/songwriters.

You know what should really piss people off about this whole Prop 8 mess, besides the obvious matter of intolerance? All the money that was wasted, even during a poor economic time like this. If only people felt so strongly about causes like fighting HIV, hunger, Malaria. Think of all the lives that dirty money could have saved.

Check out this database that went public of donors for and against Prop 8.

While trolling through this list of donors who supported prop 8,  I found a Mrs. Wilde from my hometown. She is a “Homemaker” from a small town, who donated $25,000 to support the ban on equal rights for human beings. Twenty-five THOUSAND dollars. That money would buy 2,500 mosquito nets. That money would provide thousands of people with clean drinking water. And that money would provide hundreds of kids with vaccines they need. And that’s just one donor. More than $83 million was donated to support or oppose the prop. I feel sick.

Some Prop 8 supporters filed a lawsuit to keep their names from going public on this list. The federal lawsuit was filed in January by the ballot measure’s sponsoring committee, Protect Marriage.  The suit was rejected by honorable U.S. District Judge Morrison England. “If there ever needs to be sunshine on a particular issue, it’s a ballot measure.” The suit claims releasing the names has led to consumer boycotts and picketing. Well damn people!  Don’t you get it? People don’t want to give their money and do business with, I hate to say it but, bigots.

Although the word bigot is harsh, it is what in my opinion these people are: intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices, especially one who regards or treats the members of a group with hatred and intolerance. That’s straight from Websters  ya’ll.

I have a family member that does not support equal gay rights. And although, I still love that person, his views on this I despise. Its a hard thing to swallow.  I hope someday he, and others, understand the signifigance of this.

I have something weighing on my mind though. California voters have proven that we have not come as far as some of us would like to believe. There are still many people, for whatever reason, that are too close minded to accept differences. They have stripped many people of their pride. They have made some believe they are not a worthy human being. I am horrified that 50 some odd years after our country unified, that we are again discriminating others because they are different. Voters have stripped them of rights because of who they love and who they want to commit to and spend their lives with. How can people be so naive to believe that in any way shape or form that would take away from what they have? Your marriage should be strong. A marriage is between 2 people, not the whole flippin state. Prop 8 is shameful and I am ashamed I did not do more to smother it. It was a campaign that won because of ridiculous lies spread by religious “cults” and out of state special interests. How is that legal? How is the prop legal at all? How did the prop even make it on the ballot? How did it pass after all the people that spoke out against it?

Equality under the law this is not. This is oppression.

I hope there are herds of lawyers out there trying to smash this. I wish I could do more.

They’re playing at the Echo on 5/24 but unfortunately I think I will be on the beach in San Diego, too bad for me.

Anyway, not sure how many voters/superdelegates this will bring over to Obama’s side, but I’m hoping enough to make it count. And I know Edwards has talked down to Obama and his policies before, but I think Edwards sees the potential in this man none-the-less. That’s just what a politician does, most politicians anyway.

In other reassuring news for the dem party, Clinton reaches out to her very devoted fans:

“I’m going to work my heart out for whoever our nominee is. Obviously, I’m still hoping to be that nominee, but I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that anyone who supported me … understands what a grave error it would be not to vote for Sen. Obama.”

I’m feeling really, really good about this…

In honor of that statement, here is a little story my Ma sent me. Ahh, thanks Mom!
An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a
pole which she carried across her neck.

One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and
always delivered a full portion of water.

At the end of the long walks from the stream to the house, the cracked
pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home
only one and a half pots of water.

Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments.

But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its**
**own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it
had been made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to
the woman one day by the stream.
‘I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to
leak out all the way back to your house.’

The old woman smiled, ‘Did you notice that there are flowers on your
side of the path, but not on the other pot’s side?’

‘That’s because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower
seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you
water them.’

‘For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to
decorate the table.

Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty
to grace the house.’
