Politics

I don’t understand how a man that says such barbaric things could be considered to be a leader of one of the world’s leading countries:

Responding to a question about a survey that shows increased exports to Iran, mainly from cigarettes, McCain said, “Maybe thats a way of killing them.”He quickly caught himself, saying “I meant that as a joke” as his wife, Cindy, poked him in the back.

And of course this:

And you have to love his apology:

Asshole.

I hate the big time media, this is why

Thank the lord! People are finally jumping on the train before it leaves the station (wow, that was the best i could come up with?)

Anyway, not sure how many voters/superdelegates this will bring over to Obama’s side, but I’m hoping enough to make it count. And I know Edwards has talked down to Obama and his policies before, but I think Edwards sees the potential in this man none-the-less. That’s just what a politician does, most politicians anyway.

“There is one man who knows in his heart there is time to create one America, not two … and that man is Barack Obama.” -John Edwards

In other reassuring news for the dem party, Clinton reaches out to her very devoted fans:

“I’m going to work my heart out for whoever our nominee is. Obviously, I’m still hoping to be that nominee, but I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that anyone who supported me … understands what a grave error it would be not to vote for Sen. Obama.”

I’m feeling really, really good about this…

Hell yeah, Obama took N. Carolina and almost squeaked by Clinton in Indiana. Obama is now within 200 delegates of clinching the 2,025 delegates necessary to snag the Democratic presidential nomination. Of course that number is excluding the 286 delegates from MI and FL, which are still being considered but not likely to count since those states broke the parties rules and held their primaries early. According to RealClearPolitics, Obama has 1845 delegates and Clinton has 1693. There are still 217 delegates at stake in the final six primaries: West Virginia, Kentucky, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Montana and South Dakota. And 267 superdelegates are still undecided. If all goes as it should, Obama will remain in the lead w/ the most delegates and the remaining undecided superdelegates shall vote for Obama, the choice of the people.

Overall for Obama, prognosis is good. Even better news, big players are starting to come to their senses. One of the big first endorsers of Hillary, Former Sen. McGovern, urged Clinton to drop out of the race. Clinton came very close but now is the time to bow out gracefully. It’s time to unify the democratic party before things get too messy and we hand the win to the republicans. My biggest fear though, is that by the time they realize this it will be too late.

Little side note, a Time.com poll says 80% of 7,000 polled think Clinton should drop out. But well, guess that doesn’t mean much since the demographics of Time (educated middle to upper class) are most certainly Obama supporters, according to statistics.

SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN TO APPEAR ON
“THE DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART”
WEDNESDAY, MAY 7 AT 11:00 P.M.

This should be fun.

This appearance will be his 13th time on the show, more than any other guest, but his first since becoming the Republican nominee for President

Oh and did you finally watch this?

Barack Obama on The Daily Show 4/21/08

This is a must watch for anyone who has been following Obama’s campaign. It’s hilarious! Stewart discusses all the most ridiculous scandals surrounding Obama’s candidacy. Including the controversy of Obama not wearing the American flag pin which the media and even debate monitors can’t seem to get enough of.

“Btw, I am wearing my flag pin, it’s just pinned directly to my chest.”-Stewart

It gets even better, trust me and watch

McCain’s stance on the WAR as far as I can tell is: stay in it to win it.

“…the promise of withdrawal of our forces regardless of the consequences would constitute a failure of political and moral leadership.” -John McCain, Tuesday, April 8, 2008

Listen buddy, the war was started illegally. It should never have happened. America was not prepared for the war from day one. It’s a big fat mess. America messed up. Period. Admit this massive mistake done by our government, bring home combat forces, ask for UN peace keeping help and begin to mend both countries best we can. That should be the plan. Did we learn nothing from Vietnam? The sooner we admit our mistakes, the less out of control it becomes. You of all people, being a POW for 5 1/2 years, should know.

“By ignorance we mistake, and by mistakes we learn.”

McCain’s stance on ABORTION is unforgivable:

“I do not support Roe vs Wade. It should be overturned”-John McCain, Sun., Feb. 18, 2007

“He voted against family planning, he voted against the freedom of access to clinic entrances — that was about violence against women in clinics,” Keenan says, adding, “He voted against funding for teen pregnancy-prevention programs, and making sure that abstinence only was medically accurate. This is very, very extreme.” - Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America

To break it down for you, he does not believe in abortion yet he does not support educating kids on pregnancy-prevention. This is a big problem. He does not believe schools should teach teenagers how to use contraceptives, he only wants them to be taught prevention by abstinence. He does not believe insurance should cover birth control. Yet, he does not support programs like Planned Parenthood.

To be fair, I must include that he would support exceptions to a ban on abortion in cases of rape, incest, and when the mother’s life is in danger.

I’ve run out of time to ridicule any more of McCain’s other ridiculous political beliefs, but have no fear, another McCain bashing will follow soon enough…

All I could think of while reading this story, are the three people I know that lived through the Iraq war like this soldier, James Blake Miller, has. All 3 are suffering from PTSD.

the meaning of 4,000 dead

http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1725642,00.html

Death Toll:

4,004 U.S. soldiers
~82,000 Iraqi civilian deaths

Do you remember where you were the night of March 19, 2003, when the first attacks on Baghdad fell five years ago? I do. I was at my boyfriend’s house at the time. We were all gathered around the TV, in disbelief. His dad, a republican and supporter of the war, did not seem saddened. His mom, a very sweet woman, but also perhaps very passive, only said “Oh my goodness” and walked into the kitchen to bake like she always did when something was stressing her out. My boyfriend (now ex) an independent, gripped my hand and said quietly and astonished, “This is really war”. I sat there on their leather couch, in their world, nauseous and in complete disbelief. My phone rang, my mom called… then my brother. We cried very quiet and scared tears. “What the fuck is happening?”, we asked.

I’m still asking myself that, what the fuck IS happening?

Here’s a somewhat complete breakdown of Bush’s war. Try to ignore all the screwy characters in the type. What can I say, Pat and I never would have let that be published w/ all those errors if we still worked there!
