February 2008

So this weekend me and my beautiful lady friend Crystal met a couple guys while we were walking along Mission Beach. One seemed completely normal and the other was the fucken-worst-of-the-worst-trust-fund-babies I have ever met. I wanted to puke all over his huge diamond ring, in his grey goose drink, on the windows of his beach house, on his 2 black BMWs  and even smear my puke on his perfectly over plucked eye brows.  ANYWAY, you get the point. I didn’t like him. Of course politics came up, somehow it always does when a Harmon’s around. And OF COURSE the-fucken-worst-of-the-worst-trust-fund-babies-I-have-ever-met was a republican, no surprise there. Ewwww. The other guy had a problem w/ Obama being a “Muslim”. First of all, he is not. His father and step-father were. And second of all, who gives a flying fluck!  The percent of Muslims who are terrorists must be around .001%. Give me a freakin break!

I wanted to flick them off and tell them that they are the reasons the world feels so sour about Americans. But instead I tried really, really hard to keep my temper down and argued/discussed with them about their statements. I think I got through to the one who didnt like Obama. He told me he would check him out and keep an open mind. Then again maybe he was just trying to get in my pants. Don’t worry Mom, I dont sleep w/ republicans or idiots.

I’ve unfortunatey met a lot of people like this w/ differing views on the world and I can admit I have a really hard time keeping an open mind towards them. Once I hear  the “R” word, I gag and then ask “well, that’s ok but did you vote for Bush?” Funny when you can get along w/ someone so well until you find out they voted for the devil.

Our mag usually has an Oscar party each year which the LA bureau staff is invited to. Last year all sorts of folks showed up, even Al Gore! Of course I was in NY so I didnt go. Unfortunately this year (w/ me being in LA of course) we did not plan one because of the strike. BUT we did plan a small cocktail party for the stars of Juno. It was held at Bugalow #1 at the Chateau Marmont. Stars who have stayed at this hotel include: Jim Morrison, James Deen, Judy Garland, Heath Ledger :( and many more. John Belushi also OD’d in one of the bungalows. Anyway, my point is, being there felt very nostalgic and chilling.

The party was small, maybe 45 of us? I was having a good time, just enjoying being in the same room with the very funny Jason Bateman (And no, of course I didn’t talk to him, he had much more important people to talk to I’m sure). But then, who should appear with a guitar in hand? Glen Hansard the star of Once and the singer for the Frames, w/ his costar and real-life girl Marketa Irglova. If you haevn’t seen this Irish indy, do so immediately. If you love music, and who doesn’t, you’ll love this movie. It’s honestly one of my favorite movies of the year. After I saw it, I immediately went on iTunes and bought the soundtrack. So you can imagine how stoked I was to set my sights on them. Really, they were like my Pitt and Jolie. They played us about 4 beautiful songs in front of the fireplace as we surrounded them on the velvet couches. I couldn’t help but sing along. I was completely blown away and I literally had chills. It was one of those moments in life where you feel like everything is perfect and life is precious. My heart was so full that night. It’s amazing what music can do, isn’t it? He was the sweetest man, too. Very chill, with lots of “Ahh, thanks mates!” The star of Juno, Ellen Page, even sang a song for us about beer cans after Glen begged her to come up. It was sweet.

Anyway, I’m not writing this to brag. Only to share. But hmm, it kind of is like bragging… well anyways neener, neener! I feel lucky.
